If you have had the pleasure of interacting with or getting to know Ms. Shay, you already know she is one of the most dedicated and loving teachers and caregivers who has ever existed. She pours her heart and soul into our toddlers, our parents, and our team at ES&P.
At home is no different. She is an incredibly giving and selfless single mother to her two wonderfully bright and well-mannered boys, who are almost 8 and 10, a compassionate and caring daughter and family member, and the best friend you could hope to have in your corner.
For someone who gives so much to others, it is now our turn to give back to her.
Recently, Ms. Shay has been facing a series of serious health challenges. In order to get the specialized care she needs, she and her doctors have determined that the best course of action is for her to travel to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. We are so grateful that ES&P is able to provide her with paid time off to focus on her health and make it to appointments, but we also know that the financial stress of a medical crisis doesn't take time off.
While we respect Ms. Shay's privacy regarding the specifics of her conditions, we want to be transparent about the significant financial burdens this journey creates. Your donation will help alleviate these pressures so she can focus on what matters most: her health and her family.
100% of donations will go directly to supporting Ms. Shay and her boys with:
- Child Care: Her two young boys need stability, care, and some good times, especially while their mom is traveling or recovering.
- Travel & Lodging: The recurring trips to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville add up quickly, including gas, meals on the road, and potential hotel stays.
- Medical Incidentals: The obvious out-of-pocket costs that come with treatment, like co-pays and prescriptions, and even the less obvious things like parking fees at the hospital.
- Household Support: Help with basic needs like groceries and meals, giving her one less thing to worry about when she returns from treatment. (We will also possibly set up a meal train at school in the future, as we learn more.)
- Loss of Income for Caregivers: When a family member travels with her or stays home to care for the boys, they are also losing wages.
A Note on Privacy:
Ms. Shay is a private person, and one who prefers to be in the role of helper, and we want to respect her dignity during this vulnerable time. Please refrain from asking her for specifics about her condition. The best way you can support her is by keeping her and her boys in your thoughts and giving what you can to ease this burden. She knows she is loved, and your generosity will speak volumes.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for lifting up this exemplary early childhood educator, incredible mother, and genuinely good human.
