My name is Alex I am 10 years into my journey with Multiple Sclerosis, and every single day I am fighting to stay active, independent, and present for my family. I am a wife and a mum of two wonderful boys – 11 and 18 years old. They are my strength, my motivation, and the reason why I refuse to give up, even on the hardest days.
Over the years, I have gone through every treatment option available to me, including chemotherapy, and I have now reached the point where I have no more medications left to try for MS. Despite that, I remain positive and hopeful. I believe that there is still so much life and movement left in me – I just need help to access the right therapy and equipment.
MS has significantly affected my mobility. At home I walk holding onto walls and furniture, step by step, carefully and slowly. Outside the house I rely on a mobility scooter or a wheelchair, because walking long or even medium distances is no longer possible for me. My left leg is severely affected by foot drop, causing me to trip and struggle with lifting my foot properly. I know that with time, my right leg may also need support.
But I am not giving up. I want to fight for every step.
