THE PLAY
From 30th July until 9th August Theatre Works is ‘hosting’–
Ms Julie Gabler: trapped
Written/directed/produced by Dr Kathleen Mary Fallon
Assistant director and co-producer Loretta Smith
Ms Julie Gabler: trapped is a contemporary re-imagining of Othello from the point-of-view of Desdemona. It is a penetrating intervention into the patterns of morbid jealousy (the ‘Othello Syndrome’) that so often lead to domestic violence and murder. It is the voice of the victim/survivor, my voice, crafted into art. The 2016 Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence details the necessity of hearing the voices of the victim/survivors – well here’s one!
Three contemporary Australian characters – two First Nations male actors and a white woman– play out scenes of love, suspicion, domestic violence and morbid jealousy within an inter-racial context.
FUNDING INFORMATION
To introduce myself – I am Dr Kathleen Mary Fallon (an award-winning writer) and the writer of Ms Julie Gabler: trapped. I am also the producer and director and I want to pay equity wages to everyone in the team, especially the three actors, two of whom are First Nations.
As the ‘host’ of the play Theatre Works is providing no funding except their $21,600 in-kind which provides the venue, some technical assistance, front-of-house etc. So, any donations to the play via this GoFundMe
Another option
Theatre Works has charitable status and will auspice anything over $1,000 under their DGR status and will distribute it to the production. These donations are tax deductible.
