Ms. Geneva Johnson, Almost Nothing Left-We Need Your Help

"My name is Froma Nealy, and I’m writing this through tears. Last Friday evening, the woman who taught me to read, who bandaged my scraped knees, and who still calls me ‘sweet pea’ at 76 years old, lost almost everything in a fire. Ms. Geneva Johnson—my Mother—escaped with only her clothes on her back and the walking cane she clutched as flames and smoke engulfed her home of 50 years and her ONLY car. Today, she’s sitting in a temporary shelter in Jackson, Mississippi, with limited medications, no clothes, and no way to replace the car that burned in her driveway.
I’m raising funds because she can’t. Ms. Geneva Johnson dedicated her life to others—in medical service career fields and volunteering in community support organizations to uplift the local public schools, elderly, and indigent citizens for over 40 years, delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors, and caring for stray animals she called ‘her babies,’ helping with the community garden and church outreach groups. Now, this fiercely independent woman is too traumatized to even ask for help. Her voice shakes as she whispers, ‘I just want to go home.’ But there’s no home left.
What We’re Raising Funds For:
• Urgent Housing ($10,000): Shelters overwhelm her medically fragile state. She needs a safe, quiet room for 3-6 months while we navigate insurance.
• Medical Crisis ($7,000): Her durable medical equipment and medications burned. Without them, her health will collapse.
• Transportation ($10,000): Her car—her only lifeline to numerous medical appointments and groceries—is ash. Liability insurance won’t cover a replacement.
• Basic Needs ($3,000): Clothes, toiletries, a phone to call doctors, and a suitcase to carry what little she’ll own.
Every dollar will go directly to her. I’ll post receipts for every withdrawal and update you daily. I promise.
Jackson, if you’ve ever passed her house on Powers Ave and waved at her tending roses, or if your child learned to read in her Sunday School classroom… please donate. Share. Pray. At 76, she deserves peace, not panic.
Thank you for seeing her. Thank you for caring.
