Ms. Elaine Proctor, New Orleans Elder and Herbalist, is facing housing insecurity

Elaine Proctor has got to be one of the fiercest women of our lifetime. She is profoundly loving and bold. Ms. Elaine has dedicated her life to centering her needs and uplifting her community in the process. She has worn a variety of hats: college recruiter, teacher, construction worker, herbalist, etc. Within these various roles, she has remained an outstandingly compassionate, encouraging, and strategic community advocate. She has inspired people like her nephew and me to take life and shape the meaning we desire by standing up for ourselves and our community.

Despite the time and care she has invested in enriching the lives of those around her, it pains me to acknowledge her vulnerable position as a retired, elderly Black woman. Ms. Elaine’s current landlord is increasing her rent when more than 70% of her income goes towards rent and utilities. She has moved within New Orleans twice since 2019 and is reigniting her small business to work towards stable and independent housing. But she can’t do it alone.

We ask that those inspired and impacted by Ms. Elaine’s lovely spirit make financial contributions to her wellbeing.
