Hi there - my name is Cassie Schulz, and I'm fundraising on behalf of my mother, Kelly Dunn.

Many of you know my mom. She's a teacher who spent 31 years helping students grow, providing them a safe space to be themselves, and sharing the joy of reading to kids. Maybe you're one of those students. Maybe you're one of the many colleagues she's had throughout the years. Maybe you don't know her at all - but you know a teacher. And there's never been one quite like her. Even debilitating Long COVID didn't pull her away from the classroom. With a cane and lots of grit, she continued to teach 4th grade. Long COVID wasn't going to stop her from what she does best: inspiring and empowering students as future leaders and lifelong readers.

Then, in April 2024, my mom's brother - my uncle - suddenly passed away. He was my Grandmama's caretaker, and his passing was a shock. My mom made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from the classroom and come to Iowa. She picked up the pieces and held herself and my Grandmama together. Then, my Grandmama passed away in November.

I am looking for support to help my mom move from Iowa to Baltimore - where I live. Having my mom be closer will allow me to help her manage her Long COVID symptoms as she figures out what's next. Being in Baltimore will also give her more access to medical care, Long COVID clinics, and more. The funds raised will support my mom in acquiring an apartment - covering a security deposit and the first two months of rent. I cannot express how much your support will mean to her.
