In early January I was diagnosed with stage 2b triple negative breast cancer. This is a more aggressive form of breast cancer and I am going through aggressive treatment to fight it. Before starting chemotherapy I had to tell my school directors that I would need to take medical leave from work. I have been with Northwest Montessori House of Children for over 9 years, initially we thought it would only be for a few months but I am a teacher, working with children ages 3 to 4 so it will be closer to a year before I return. I will not have the mental nor physical strength needed to lead in a classroom anytime soon. My treatment will include 16 rounds of chemotherapy over 24 weeks, breast reconstruction surgery and radiation. I love what I do and I don't want to imagine myself anywhere else but that is a pretty long time to go without a second income coming into the house. I have an incredible support system with my employers and co-workers, friends and family who are close, far and wide.
