The Journey of Ms. Cheree Peoples ~ Falsely Arrested Under Kamala Harris' Truancy Laws

Ms. Cheree Peoples has weathered the worse storm any mother caring for a sick child can endure. Imagine being unjustly arrested for a truancy violation under Kamala Harris’ harsh truancy law, while caring for a sick child who is suffering with sickle cell anemia, all the while being dragged through the criminal justice court system fighting for your freedom. Ms. Peoples’ had complied with all the rules and regulations in the Orange County public schools system, and had provided all documentation to support the cause for her child’s absences who spent many days in the hospital and could not regularly attend school. But that didn’t matter to Kamala Harris and her prosecutors’ office. Ms. Peoples was to be made the example so that Harris could prove she was tough on truancy.

After two and half years, the case was dropped abruptly with no explanation…and no apology from Kamala Harris. Ms. Peoples and her child have struggled mentally, emotionally and financially while trying to rise from the ashes of Kamala Harris’ truancy conviction. It has been a very tough journey, but they continue to press forward. However, we all know that a criminal record significantly hinders a woman’s ability to get on her feet. Too often in the State of California, an arrest, not even an arrest that leads to a conviction, hinders a woman’s ability to maintain gainful employment and housing. She needs help overcoming some of the mountainous hurdles that come with rebounding from a false and arrest and conviction.

Ms. Peoples’ story is very touching, yet very compelling. It helps shine the light on the many miscarriages of justice and the atrocities that occur daily in courthouses across the country for Black Americans. With your help she can overcome some of the financial hurdles she is currently facing. God bless you and thank you in advance for your donation.
