Who Is Ms Bailey?

Ms Bailey came into our lives almost a year ago. She and her sister were “products” at a big named pet store. I say this because they did not take good care of either of them. Bailey had a sister I’d named Shirley. Shirley and Bailey were very small which concerned me but I couldn’t see any other issues with them immediately. Shirley and Bailey had been in that store for several months. We frequently visited them to see if they had found homes. The manager knew we were pig lovers and was very pushy on playing on that and pushing “the sale.”
Anyway I caved and brought home Shirley. Hours later I knew something was wrong. Shirley was sneezing and coughing. These sounds were not anything I’d heard before but I knew that it was not good. She was rushed to the vet the very next morning and passed away later that day. The vet said it was pneumonia and her body just couldn’t fight it off.
I knew what that meant for Bailey so we called and demanded Bailey get seen by a vet. Right away they seemed unbothered that they had sold a very sick animal. They “reassured” us that Bailey would be taken off the sale floor and seen by a vet.
I got an icky feeling that something bad was going to happen. So the next day we visited again and Bailey was out on the sale floor.
The staff reassured me all precautions were taken and Bailey was not sick.
At that point I was fed up. I played along and brought Bailey home and right away took her into the vet who confirmed she too had pneumonia and that it was up to her body if the antibiotics would work in time. Every single day since then has been a battle for Bailey.
That store was reported to their regional manager. Which was a process in itself.
Bailey never fully recovered. She now is battling Calcified Bulla Syndrome, as a result of the poor care she got as a baby.
She’s mostly blind and completely deaf.
Currently she is on a medication that has a 2 in 12 chance of stopping the progression of her calcification.
This little pig is my best friend. I’ve bonded with her in a way that I can’t explain. I’d do anything for her and I wish I could take away all of bad things she’s had to face.
She’s captured the hearts of many online and in person.
She’s truly a one of a kind pig.
We love you Ms Bailey!

(Because Ms Bailey is considered special needs and will need ongoing care, we will keep this page open as long as she is with us.)
