MRTF Grant for Philly Teachers

Marci Resnick was born and raised in Philadelphia, and taught elementary school there for 20 years, before mentoring teachers across the city and around the country as part of the Philadelphia Writing Project and the National Writing Project .
After Marci died in 2007, her family, friends, and colleagues decided that the best way to honor her memory and to make use of the many donations that poured in was to set up a fund that would support the kinds of teaching and learning that she was passionate about – The Marci Resnick Teacher Fund (MRTF).
Each year, the MRTF distributes $500 grants to elementary teachers in Philadelphia public schools. The MRTF steering committee is made up of her family members, including her children, and colleagues from the National Writing Project and the Philadelphia Writing Project. It is in recognition of the important work that classroom teachers do as well as the realities of underfunded and under resourced public schools that we hope to provide some resources so teachers can be creative in their classrooms in the ways that Marci valued. Please donate todate so we can continue supporting these teachers, their students, and the learning they do together!
We've given grants to teachers all across city, reaching hundreds of students in dozens of schools. Here's a map of where we're been able to support amazing teachers do amazing work:
Teachers have done year-long art projects, integrated technology into their classrooms in new and exciting ways, started multilingual libraries for their students, and created new clubs and opened new opportunities. Ms. Harrison at Huey Elementary used her grant to support a debate club, helping kids build their confidence, their language skills, and their ability to collaborate:
