Helping Our Mom, Linda Garrity

Donation protected
For over 15 years, our mom, Mrs. Linda Garrity, has served at St. John the Baptist School in Kenmore, NY.  When we were in grammar school, she quit her corporate job as an insurance underwriter to go back to grad school to become a teacher with the specific hope to work at St. John’s School.  She joined St. John’s faculty as a 1st grade teacher; she then spent the next 12 years as the junior high's premier Math instructor before she assumed the role of Vice Principal in 2014.

During those years, she patiently and selflessly guided hundreds of children through many of life's hurdles: from "learning to read" and "solving for X," to preparing for high school and understanding the importance of pursuing one's vocation.

Mom never once hesitated to meet with a student before class, help them at Crunch & Munch (her after-school math tutoring program), or spend weekends creating additional support materials to ensure her students had every opportunity to thrive.  She always went the extra mile so that her students had the help they needed.

Now, "Mrs. Garrity" needs your help...

Over the past five years, our mom has been diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease, a rare condition that's compromised several of her organs and systems.  Additionally,  she suffers from T.R.A.P.S., another rare disease causing frequent fevers and lesion breakouts.

Compounding matters, a large mass was found on her right adrenal gland last Spring.  A long, complicated surgery to remove the mass and gland quickly spiraled into a 7-week hospitalization.  She has endured eight subsequent surgical procedures, several life-threatening infections, additional hospitalizations, and more.

Despite this array of complications, our mom is determined to regain her strength and stamina; she’s making great strides. However, she now faces yet another complication: they’ve discovered that nearly half of her abdominal wall is missing, which requires another, more intense surgery.

While she hoped to return to her post at St. John's by Thanksgiving, these complications have compromised her ability to go back to work.  Every day is a battle to accomplish the most basic of tasks, with physical therapy often being the only activity she can muster.

It’s been a struggle to watch our mom handle all of this, but she’s done it with grace, determination, and tremendous faith.  She has approached each hurdle head-on, learning everything about each diagnosis, and seeking the best experts to aid her recovery. We are so proud of her!

And so, we come to you to humbly ask your assistance to help raise enough money to cover her household expenses and her mounting medical bills while she is unable to work.  The expenses are another stress, but your assistance can help alleviate this burden. Any donation would be greatly appreciated, as well as sharing her story with others.

Thank you for being part of her community of support.

We are both tremendously grateful for your assistance,
