My Story
I am professional Children's Party Entertainer. I have made my living from this for the last 15 years or so.
I love what I do. It includes a lot of comedy, loads of imaginitive interaction, lots of theatricality and Magic.
I entertain hundreds of children every single week, at events ranging from private parties to community events and schools.
So last Friday, I was about to go to bed and there was a knock on my door. My neighbour said "You better come out and see your car Mandy" The back window (hatchback car) had been completely smashed out and was all over the road .... the thieves had taken everything. My car had been properly locked and nothing was on show.
I was devastated. I had 5 shows booked for the weekend, starting with one at 10 am the following morning. I was up all night, trying to piece together what to do. Luckily, I had some very old equipment and really old broken magic tricks, that had no routines to perform with. I made it to Maplin's electrical shop first thing on my way to the first booking. I had to get the taxi to stop while i went in and grabbed a few essentials.
Remember, I was also exhausted as I had hardly slept, and I had no car either, as mine was undrivable.
Long story short, the show must go on and it did.
A compromised version, but I suppose my experience paid off and the clients were happy.
Basically what I bought that weekend plus hiring a taxi to get me to where I had to go, meant I worked that entire weekend for nothing.
I'm a one parent family, I have no support and this money should have been for my bills etc ...
Fortunately, I have quite a few other gigs this month as its Xmas Party time. This is the time we entertainers like to make the most of.
I have tried to claim on 3 Insurance policies that I own but each one has some reason why they won't cover me.
1 - The maximum they pay out is £250, but the excess is £400 !!! That was the car insurance
2 - House Insurance, wont cover business equipment outside the home
3- The actors insurance (Equity) told me yesterday I am not covered as I wasnt actually doing a job at the time of the crime !!!! Even though it was loaded especially to do the job the next day.

A lot of what was stolen was very personal to me, and
every bit of it was essential.

Some of the Magic Tricks had been personally made and
are irreplacable.
In total I would say £1500 would put me properly back on my feet. Some of this has already been spent, by
repair to car and the emergency equipment I bought.
However, this has come out of funds that I require to
pay my mortgage, bills, feed family etc ...
It would be wonderful to recreate and reinvent my show as soon as possible as I have clients with high expectations and I don't want my reputation to be
compromised.
Finally, if there is any chance of sharing this on Facebook it would be wonderful. Also, if anybody lives in or around the Cambridge (UK) area and comes across a suitcase of Magic that has been dumped, or sees any very well used Magic Tricks for sale PLEASE let me know. This would mean so much to me.
