Help for First Grade Students!

Mrs. Kate Wilkins has been teaching elementary school for 13 years and has been an exemplary teacher of 1st grade at George C. Payne Elementary in San Jose since 2006.
George C. Payne Elementary serves a diverse student population, with about 40% of the students receiving free or reduced meals. Despite these socioeconomic disadvantages, the school boasts a 9 out of 10 in GreatSchools rating, with over 70% of the student population meeting or exceeding proficiency in both ELA and Math on the latest state-wide standardized test!
This is thanks to the tireless work of teachers like Mrs. Wilkins who create opportunities for her students to learn state of the art technology and experiences that parallel schools with more financial resources.
Currently, the 1st graders use iPads to conduct research, learn about internet safety, complete assignments in all subject areas, play educational games, and much more! 1st graders also go on 3-4 field trips a year to supplement their learning. This included a trip to Happy Hollow Zoo to learn about animal habitats, a trip to the Alma Fire Station, and they will soon be attending a play at the Santa Clara University Theater!
Due to some of the children's socioeconomic status, costs for these field trips are hardships and Payne School has had to supplement in order for ALL children to enjoy these educational experiences. The iPads are also quite old, and breaking down due to frequent use. Several of the ipads will need to be replaced soon.
We hope to raise $500 by May 18 to assist Mrs. Wilkins in replacing some iPads and having a fund to assist our children to attend field trips. This will also qualify Mrs. Wilkins to be entered into a contest to win $1000 to do even more amazing activities for our children! Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with your family and friends! Thank you!
