Hello all
We are so happy to report that Mary Ann was able to have 4 months off of treatment, attend her son's wedding, enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas, and was released to return to work on January 9th, 2023. She resumed her position at Coastline Christian Academy as a Kindergarten Teacher, where she is so passionate about her students. Unfortunately, the return was shorter than what she had expected. On April 7th, Good Friday, she was informed through a scan that she had multiple tumors in the brain. While this news may knock the wind out of most, Mary Ann was not phased at all, knowing that this was conquerable.
The same scan showed that the treatment she endured previously was 100% effective, victoriously leaving her body from the neck down clean of any foreign abnormalities. Mary Ann is confident that this round of treatment will prove the same outcome. On April 11th, Mary Ann had brain surgery to deflate a tumor and collect samples of the others. The procedure was done by some of the top physicians in their fields, leading to a successful operation. After a few days of recovery, Mary Ann was transferred back home, where her incredible husband Mike was recovering from a full knee replacement surgery, assisted by their earth angel daughter Rebecca.
Mary Ann then started the second step of the process, which was full brain radiation five days a week at the Ridley Tree Center in Santa Barbara. After two weeks of radiation, Mary Ann was given a few days rest before starting an Immunotherapy Treatment. This treatment will be monitored closely and continue for the time being. All and all, the Solodon family is extremely grateful for the physicians and staff, family and friend support including coworkers, neighbors, longtime friends, new acquaintances, and support of complete strangers, as well.
Life can be humbling with its timing and challenges. Mike has been on disability for multiple months due to his surgery, while Rebecca has taken a leave of absence to assist Mary Ann and Mike through their recoveries. Currently, Mary Ann is receiving very limited disability compensation, and unfortunately it is not enough to supplement the financial needs of medical bills plus daily life.
We as a family have been so incredibly humbled and blessed by the support from this community. We are, as graciously as possible, requesting that assistance once more as we confidently charge forward throughout this process.
Mary Ann is expecting complete healing in the coming months and to return to her love and passion once again, positively impacting and guiding the next generation of little warriors with her unbreakable spirit. We cannot say thank you enough for everything that you and this community that supports us has done to stride forward, each and every day, not wavering in faith and confidence to get this job done.
We will be eagerly waiting to share the next phase of success and will send updates throughout.
Thank you,
Josh and the Solodon Family Crew
