Mrs. Bender’s Hospital & After Care Fund

Hi everyone. I know some of you have reached out and asked about my mom, so I wanted to update everyone all at once.

On Wednesday March 8th I found my mother laying unconscious on her bedroom floor. She was unable to communicate, so I called paramedics. She was incoherent and very disoriented. The doctors thought she had suffered a bad stroke. After initial tests, they discovered a brain bleed, trauma to her neck, multiple broken vertebrae, and a blood infection. She was admitted into ICU.

Since then, she has had an endless amount of scans and tests done. They didn’t fully rule out a stroke because of the blood in her brain, and thought she may need back surgery. They have decided that we can wait to see how she improves. Her cognitive state is up and down, but that can be a result of the brain bleed, as well as the infection. At the moment, they believe she fell, hit her head and body, causing a lot of trauma. We are unclear of the details at this time. We may never know. Unfortunately, as a result of all of this, she can not walk.

The trauma doctors would like to transfer her to a skilled rehab, when she is stable, to undergo physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.

If you know me (or Josh), you know it’s not like me to reach out for help. My mother would most likely yell at me for even considering asking. That being said, she is my world and is so important to me and Josh. It is never easy to ask for help. It’s very humbling, and makes you feel even more vulnerable than we already do. The entire situation is going to be a very difficult, both emotionally and financially. We have set up this gofundme in hopes that we can offset some of these expenses. Any support we receive will go directly to her care. At the moment, we are unsure what will come, but fingers crossed she will recover as best she can.
