Wednesday evening I saw my neighbor take her last breath right outside my apartment. She had spent 5 days in the hospital with neumonía and her husband (Chuck) was bringing her back home. The paramedics tried to revive her for at least 30 minutes, but they were not successful. Mrs. Bea was 85 years old and had been in and out of the hospital since I’ve known her. We’ve lived across from each other for the last 11 years. She was friendly, sweet and kind to me, my wife Cecilia Sanabria-Diaz, and my girls since the day we moved in.

Chuck is a gentle, Bruin Loving humbled man. Him and I talk Dodgers, Lakers, and college football every time we see each other. Since there are no sports right now, we’ve been talking about the current state of our nation. He is the only neighbor I talk to. Chuck and Mrs. Bea have been together for almost 50 years. He took real good care of her, but now has no one to take care of him. He has been crying for the last 3 days. I’m so glad I’ve been able to make some calls for him and be there for support. I will help him with whatever I can to ensure he gives Mrs. Bea the proper burial. At his age, he will definitely need the help and support as he will no longer be able to afford his apartment.

This incident truly made me realize how important family is. Specially, when you get to that age. Chuck is not alone, my family and i will be there for him. So next time you see me at the Dodger game, you might just see him too. RIP Mrs. Bea. Don’t worry about Chuck, I got him!
