Help Us Bring "Mr. Darcy & Me" to Life: A Queer Jane Austen ACTRA MIP Short Film that will be submitted to the ACTRA Film Festival this year!
What happens when a Jane Austen-obsessed queer accidentally invites her ex to their favorite make out spot in the park?
*PANIC*
Well gay panic, to be precise.
"Mr. Darcy & Me" is a short narrative film about queer longing in the modern world. We follow Lucy, a newly 30 year old who’s anxious to a fault, emotionally overwhelmed, and clinging to the one person who always seems to understand her: her imaginary friend, Mr. Darcy.
Yes, that Mr. Darcy.
As she spirals into a full-blown panic attack, Darcy attempts to help her before her ex shows. But mid panic attack, Tea appears bringing her back to the present! The couple eventually come to an understanding, all but admitting their feelings for one another, but instead of lingering in the "what if" they both choose to move forward.
With wit, tenderness, and just the right amount of literary melodrama, "Mr. Darcy & Me" is a story that centers the female gaze. romanticize our coping mechanisms, and sometimes need a fictional 19th century gentleman (who might also be our ex) to talk us through a 21st-century meltdown.
