I am raising money for my classroom. I currently teach math and I have 210 students that are divided among 7 periods. All of my students are hardworking, dedicated, thoughtful, and friendly students that are taking either Honors Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, or AP Calculus BC. They work well together and have learned to improve their math skills by working individually and cooperatively in groups. My current classroom has traditional school desks that I inherited from a teacher that retired when I started teaching 20 years ago. My fundraising goal is to have a class set of student desks that allow students to easily transition from individual work space to pairs or group work. I know that I have found the solution by getting a classroom with standing desks.
Expenses are 39 new desks at about $225 each which includes tax and delivery. I already purchased one of these desks myself which will be added to the 39 desks for a full set of 40. I’ll am gladly donating this first desk to my classroom as well as the time to assemble the 40 desks. My old desks from my classroom will be dispersed to other teachers to replace any of their old desks as mine are in good condition. I will order the desks and have them delivered as soon as there is funding.
I’m really looking forward to transforming my classroom learning environment. I want to increase student engagement. When standing students can easily move to the board and ask questions or participate in creating the solution. We can change from rows for direct instruction and to groups cooperative learning activities. When students are standing we are eye to eye which is much more comfortable for the student and myself when we are discussing their conceptual understanding or explaining a solution to a problem. Standing also keeps the students more active and less likely to fall asleep in class (never happens in my class). I want a dynamic and active classroom where I can quickly and easily check on the progress of every student and I can see them working and learning together.
Help me improve the math experience of my students. They are all great people and are deserving of your donation. Thank you.
