Urgent Help Needed for Our Dog's Treatment

My dog was hit on Friday night at the entrance of my neighborhood. He was picked up at 2:30 am by Saint Lucie county animal safety services . They brought him to VMC of Saint Lucie county . When I woke up to get some water in the middle of the night I noticed my door was wide open. I turned around to check on my dog and he was gone . My husband and I were out all night and all day Saturday searching the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods speaking with neighbors outside ect. I made Facebook posts and nextdoor posts asking if anyone has seen him .He’s older and I couldn’t imagine him getting far and the worst crossed my mind when I was unable to find him. While a frantic mess, I receive a Facebook message at 1:04 pm( Saturday )from the man who picked him up and brought him to the hospital at 2:30am. He stated I believe the dog you have pictured missing in the posts is your dog. We then spoke on the phone when he told me Duke was hit at the entrance of our neighborhood by a Prius . I don’t not have a police report yet or the persons name that hit him which I am working on.He instructed me of what happened and where Duke was brought. He told me I could go to the VMC hospital to get my dog . I get there and they sit us in a room and finally bring Duke in . He was unable to walk and he was bleeding from his ear, nose and mouth . He was in no condition to be brought home . They were going to release him to my care that night and stated it was not medically recommended in the state he was in and I agreed. I asked what follow up treatment would cost and they broke it down that night and it would have been $2400. I laid on the floor with him for hours calling family and everyone I could to try to come up with the money to get him the care and was unsuccessful. I was told by the nurse in the facility to go home and let animal control take care of the bill and that they would contact me Monday ( today ) . I asked what would happen if I did that and was told typically animal control would release him to me Monday and let me know from there. From what I was told on Saturday night, the only treatment that was given to Duke up until that point was an x-ray of his hips, intravenous and pain medication . Had I had the $2400 on Saturday night they would’ve followed up with an x-ray of his chest to check his pulmonary and heart condition and they would have ran bloodwork and performed a CT scan of his head. I was never provided a copy of what they would follow up with since I did not have the funds. Yesterday ,(Sunday) I called and spoke with the officer who picked him up Friday night and asked him when he would be able to meet us there and what would happen. He told me if I were unable to pay the bill at the hospital that he would have to take him and that there was no telling what animal control would do then but did say that due to his age they would likely euthanize him and that i would not get his remains. The other option would be that a rescue would get him.So without sleep , crying and feeling sick to my stomach all day yesterday I tried to raise funds to pay the vet bill today to meet the officer today at 4:30. I applied for care credit and was not approved. At work today trying to pull thru with my dog having a timestamp of 4:30 pm today ,I receive a message on Facebook from the officer telling me that someone else with Saint Lucie county animal services would be meeting me there today at 4:30. When I asked him why ..he stated that he was “No longer employed by Animal safety of St Lucie county as of this morning”. Shortly after I received that message I then receive a phone call from another officer with animal safety services named Lacey at 11:34 am (while I’m sitting in my HR managers office at work bawling ) telling me that she picked Duke up from the hospital and he is now at they’re shelter on Midway road . I was told in order to get Duke out of there that I would need to pay $2,197.64 today by 4:30 when they close . I was told that ,that is the charge and for each day after that there would be an additional $10 charge per day that he is there up to 5 days . Day 5 will be May 17th. All I was told by Debra at the front desk of the animal control shelter was that Duke seemed fine when he was brought in . She said he was walking and seemed to be ok “he was chilling” . I leave work frantic and go up there to see him all while still trying to figure out how to come up with the money to get him out and get him further treatment. I was not allowed to see my own dog and told that “We don’t wanna get him excited “ although he just went from a hospital to a shelter with a thousand barking dogs . I asked for a print out copy from the hospital of the billed charges and treatment he received and they would not provide that to me although she had it in her hand . I went to the parking lot and was responding to the community, friends and family with updates listening to advice. Someone’s advice was to call the county commissioner. The county commissioners assistant called up Animal control safety services and asked them to supply me a Copy of billed charges from the hospital. She called me back and told me to go inside and that they would give it to me . She also told me Duke was fine aside from a broken Jaw and that he is going to need surgery and that was all that was told to her .When I went back inside to get it the receipt I was given a bogus receipt from Debra and Maria (the boss)that shows nothing aside from the price to get him out with no break down and the only name listed on the receipt is ACC not the actual hospital. I called the actual hospital and asked them to provide me a receipt and the practice manager ( Stephanie) said that they could not that only animal control could . I walk back in the lobby stating to Debra and Maria that Stephanie at VMC said she can send it to them and they could give it to me. Well the refused to give it to me. Im left with the bogus receipt. I was also told that if anyone was able to help me pay to get him out that they would have to physically be there with me to pay or pay me the money directly to pay because they dont accept payments over the phone .I really really am begging pleading and crying for help to get my baby out of this situation and get him the help he needs.
