Family and Friends,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits! This upcoming March, I will be going on a service trip to the Dominican Republic with Here for Kids International! If you didn’t already know, I went on this same trip last year. Although expecting to simply play soccer in a beautiful country for a week, I ended up leaving a significant piece of my heart there. God broke me down in ways that I didn’t know were possible and throughout the trip, he showed me what His love looks like in its most true and pure form, and the ways in which he works in the darkest of circumstances.
Here For Kids International is a California Bay Area non-profit that sends collegiate student athletes to the Dominican Republic to run sports camps and activities for orphaned youth. As a national organization, Here For Kids partners with Kids Alive International, a non-profit in over 14 countries that has built orphanages and schools for abandon and abused children for over 100 years.
The children that we work with have suffered horrific abuse and neglect and are slowly being rebuilt through Here for Kids and these trips. When we go, we work with the public schools in the city, helping with anything from lice outbreaks to taking basic medical measurements, running sports camps and P.E classes, working on construction projects at the orphanages, etc. but we do these all for the purpose of simply caring for those kids and showing them Christ’s love and provision.
During our time there this year, my team and I will be joining other collegiate student athletes from across the nation, running a camp for La Semana Santa, or “Holy Week”. We will get to work with all of the Here for Kids orphanages across the DR, as well as participating in construction projects that will help Kids Alive to continue to house, feed, and educate vulnerable youth.
I am excited to see the ways in which God works in my team and myself this year and I would love for you to be able to join my support team in any way you feel comfortable. Thanks!!
The trip is from March 19th-27th but I willstill be accepting donations even after I return!
Thanks and God Bless,
Grace
