Mr. Sherlock Holmes - Short Film
“Where it all began, the first meeting of the world’s most famous detective and his loyal friend.”
Mr. Sherlock Holmes is a short film adaptation of the opening chapter of A Study in Scarlet, the story that introduced the world to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.
The Story
Recently returned from service in the Boer War, Dr. John Watson finds himself adrift in London, wounded, weary, and in need of both purpose and a place to live. An unexpected meeting with Stamford, an old acquaintance, changes everything.
Stamford introduces Watson to a man in search of someone to share rooms with, a man of peculiar habits and extraordinary intellect: Mr. Sherlock Holmes.
From this first encounter, an iconic partnership is born, one that will go on to solve some of the most baffling mysteries ever written.
The film also features flashbacks to Watson’s time in the Boer War, depicting his trauma and courage on the battlefield. These sequences will authentically include Black actors portraying African troops who fought alongside British soldiers, a historically accurate and respectful portrayal of diversity.
The Cast
Daniel Jagusz-Holley (The Phantom of the Opera, 2025 tour) as Sherlock Holmes
Dougie Scott, accomplished theatre actor, as Dr. John Watson
Daniel Taylor (The George Harrison Show, Something About Lennon) as Stamford
Each brings a wealth of theatrical experience and emotional power to these legendary characters.
The Team Behind the Film
Gobey Productions made its debut with The Passerby (2024), which premiered at the Cheltenham International Film Festival to critical praise for its powerful exploration of male domestic abuse, suicide, and mental health.
Their follow-up, Fagin’s Rant, a bold reimagining of Dickens’ infamous character, releases December 2025.
Both films were produced on micro-budgets (£3,000–£4,000) proving what this team can do with passion, precision, and heart.
Why We Need Your Help
Mr. Sherlock Holmes has a stellar cast, authentic period locations across Cheltenham and Cirencester, and even a teaser trailer already filmed on the grounds of Cirencester Abbey (October 2025).
The project is endorsed by the Doyle Estate, and with your support, we can bring this story to life the way it deserves to be told.
Why We’re Raising Funds
We’re raising £20,000 to bring Mr. Sherlock Holmes fully to life, ensuring every detail, from performance to production, meets the highest professional standard.
Your support will allow us to:

Hire authentic period costumes for lead and background actors from Masquerade Costumes, who previously supplied wardrobe for Fagin’s Rant
Hire a horse and cart for the Cabby scenes to recreate Victorian London with realism and style
️ Source props and set dressings to make our Cheltenham and Cirencester locations look historically accurate
Cover production costs for equipment, lighting, and transport
Market the finished film and submit it to festivals worldwide
Every contribution goes directly toward making the complete film, ensuring Mr. Sherlock Holmes is produced with care, authenticity, and the same creative passion that defined our earlier work.
