Mr. Schnieder's 11/11/11 Vacation
Don protégé
Many of us have been inspired, mentored, or enlightened by Mr. Gary Schnieders. His work at Columbus Catholic is unprecedented. All of his students go on and live with the lessons he taught. We continue experiencing, learning, honoring and remebering the history he taught us as wide eyed freshman. For the past 12 years he's travelled to Europe and helped kids experience first hand the history lessons from his classroom. I've been able to participate in this trip twice and both times have been the most extreme learning experiences of my life. It's bizarre that in this little pocket of Waterloo, Iowa we have a living treasure.
His excitement and passion for history is unmatched. His excitement and passion for teaching is unprecedented. Many of us want to say thank you but don't know how. Well, sometimes we we can say thank you by providing.
Here is an opportunity to provide a beloved teacher the experience of a life time. The 100th anniversary of Armistice Day is approaching. The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918 ended World War I. On November 11th, 2018 - this will be the 100th anniversary. We'd like to give Mr. Schnieders the trip of a lifetime, and let him experience this monumental moment of history as a way of saying thank you. He's said numerous times how'd he like to be in Europe on that day. Once the campaign is over I will give him these funds in cash, and we'll have a little get together with his favorite, "Pizza Marguerite." Hopefully we can do this at Columbus, which is where he feels most comfortable.
One final thing: DO NOT POST ON FACEBOOK!
We are trying to be discreet and surprise Mr. Schnieders.
