I am a junior High woodworking teacher turned wood/engineering/art teacher in Fremont California. In the spring of 2018, I was offered space on my campus to place a storage container for my classes. Up until this time, spring meant shuffling student projects in and out of my class each day to facilitate space for students to be able to work in my classroom. I should note that many of my students have been known to build larger/ more complex project than one usually sees in Junior High.
I looked in several places for funding for this storage, but found myself in May without any hope. That month, I was approached by a man at MakerFaire saying that he represented a program through Stanford University that helped programs like mine. Through a long series of emails, and visits with him at Stanford, I was led to believe that if I purchased the container he could get me reimbursed.
This obviously did not happen. Stanford has informed me that they are aware of him and that he was no longer associated with them.
At this point, the container is permanently located on my campus and is, and will be in the future, used for storage for my growing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) program. I have turned a junior high woodworking program into a STEAM program including woodworking , beginning engineering, digital imaging, art, and more. This container will help to provide us the space to have students work in the classrooms while still being able to dream big.
I am asking to be reimbursed for my expense. When the container is paid for, I will donate it to the school.
Thank You.
