Mr. Grr’s Comfort Fund: Cherishing Every Moment

Hello,
My cat—my baby—Mr. Grr, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in December 2022. It’s a condition not uncommon in cats, where the kidneys slowly lose their ability to filter toxins, maintain hydration, and support red blood cell production—much like kidney disease in humans.
Since his diagnosis, I’ve done everything I can to manage his health: a prescription diet, plenty of fresh water, and lots of love. My goal has always been to slow the disease’s progression and give him a comfortable, happy life for as long as possible.
Over the past week, though, Mr. Grr began to change. He stopped eating, stopped drinking, and withdrew—hiding under the bed instead of asking for cuddles, something anyone who knows him knows is completely out of character. Most shocking of all, he started turning down food—*any* food.
On Friday (04/18/2025), I brought him to the vet. After blood work and initial testing, they told me his kidney disease had progressed significantly and he needed to be transferred to a veterinary emergency hospital right away for intensive care.
At the hospital, they tried fluid therapy and monitored him closely. Unfortunately, his blood work continued to worsen, and by Sunday, he needed a blood transfusion. It was scary and heartbreaking, but the transfusion went well, and after a few more days of care, he finally stabilized.
I am extremely grateful that, today, I was able to bring Mr. Grr home. He’s eating again, drinking, and curled up in his cat tower—his favorite safe spot—as I write this. I know our time together is limited now, but I want to make every moment count. I want him to be pain-free, surrounded by love, and as comfortable as possible in these final months.
As much as I hate to ask for help, his emergency hospitalization has been financially overwhelming. On top of that, he now needs more frequent follow-up visits that I’m not sure I can manage alone.
Any finds raised will, first and foremost, go to paying off a line of credit I had to open with CareCredit that is now maxed out at $9,000 for the ER trip. If we somehow, miraculously manage to exceed that, it will be saved and put toward his eventual last vet bill when we will have to say goodbye. There are also trivialities like clean syringes for feeding and giving water, medication costs, etc.
So if you’re able to give—even a little—it would mean the world to both of us. Your support will help keep Mr. Grr happy, comfortable, and showered in cuddles and kisses until that dreaded time comes.
Thank you so much for reading, for caring, and for helping me give him the love he deserves.
