Mr. Ghimire's Emergency medical Bills
Donation protected
This fundraising is to help a family friend's father-in-law, Mr. Ammar Ghimire, pay for his unexpected and significant emergency medical bill.
Mr. Ammar Ghimire in Victoria, BC, on a visitor's visa with his wife to help their young daughter care for her first-born girl in January.
Originally, they had planned only to be here for 2 to 3 months until their daughter can be confident enough to take care of the baby.
With COVID-19 and the resultant flight cancellations and border closures, Mr. Ghimire and his wife have had to remain in Victoria well past their scheduled. This unexpected turn of events left Mr. Ghimire, a heart patient, stranded without his necessary, familiar, and proven heart medications.
While he was eventually able to obtain Canadian versions of his heart medications, they proved not to be effective at controlling his heart disease - and was eventually taken off these medications on the advice of a local doctor.
Unfortunately, without his reliable heart medication, Mr. Ghimire consequently experienced several episodes of chest pain, the most recent one landing him in the Emergency Ward of the Royal Jubilee Hospital. It was during this most recent visit to RJH that it was discovered that Mr. Ghimire had a heart attack - one severe enough to require immediate emergency angioplasty and stent placements in 2 of his arteries, followed by a night's stay in the Intensive Care Unit.
Thanks to the quick action of the doctors and staff at RJH, Mr. Ghimire is now recovering from his surgery. While Mr. Ghimire is extremely grateful to be alive, he is also extremely concerned about the resultant financial burden that his medical emergency will now come to bear on his daughter's young family; Costs for this operation and hospital stay is expected to top $30,000!
While the original intent of his visit was to help care for his daughter and newborn granddaughter, the roles have now been reversed. Mr. Ghimire is now concerned that he has not only burdened his young daughter with his ill health but also the medical bill. And while they do have travel medical insurance, the insurers have already indicated that this medical emergency, because it is the result of a pre-existing condition, will NOT be covered.
We hope to raise funds for this kind and generous gentleman who, in spite of not having mastered the English language, has communicated by his deeds, that he is generous with his time and energy to lend neighbors and his newfound friends here in Victoria, a helping hand whenever needed. Mr. Ghimire and his family will be very grateful for any contributions you may be able to make to help him raise the necessary funds to help cover the cost of this medical emergency.
