Hi,
I'm Mr. Donohoe. I teach a University of Washington "Dual Enrollment" course called UW BIOL 100: Introductory Biology: Neurobiology of Addiction. This is a class offered to students of Cleveland High School in Seattle, and if they pay $375 to UW, they can also get 5 college credits for taking the course (similar to an AP class).
In the past, some grants paid these registration fees for students and families for whom this cost was a financial hardship, but unfortunately, the district has decided that they will only pay for Math & English classes going forward. All of the money from this GoFundMe will be paid to UW to subsidize the registration fees of students who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch (meaning their families are below the income thresholds below).
Last year, we raised about $8,000 with generous donations from the PTSA, and this was enough to cover $250 of each student's fee, so that they and their families only had to pay $125 each. This year, we are up against a tight registration deadline - students must decide on registration by October 12th!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Donohoe through GoFundMe and I'll answer questions as quickly as I can!
