Oh Cody, the Codester how is it we are here? The best hugger and high-fiver!
Dear family and friends, on February 27th at 11:01 a.m. at the young age of just 29, with his incredible family by his side, the world lost the most caring, genuine soul that has blessed this earth and those around him.
Cody lived his life with so much joy and laughter, and brought the same to everyone who knew him or came across him. Cody was a bright light to everyone and deserves to be celebrated for the absolute incredible human he truly was.
It breaks our hearts, because no parent should have to say goodbye to their child, but as the amazing community they are surrounded with, we can make sure they are showered in love and support.
I am Jodie's cousin, and with the permission of Jodie and both his and Pam's families, we have decided to give Cody the most incredible celebration of life. Over the last couple of weeks, Jodie and Pam have been by Cody's side, and unfortunately with funds already tight, Jodie was unable to work. So, we have decided a GoFundMe was the appropriate way to go to ensure Cody is given everything his BIG heart deserves, and is celebrated in the most incredible way. Plans will be released soon, but it will be the perfect send off for our newest Angel.
We appreciate and love everyone, and are grateful for any amount of donation in honor of Cody. If you can not donate, sharing is equally as appreciated.
I asked Pam(Cody's mom) to tell me a little bit about Cody and his life that she'd like to add, and it truly does express the beauty of his life, including the triumphs he surpassed during his short 29 years here on earth.
Pam wrote:
Cody's life started January 10th, 1996 at McMaster hospital with 3 months of life support. The doctors said there would be no real hope at him having any quality of life that he would basically be on life support and unable to communicate or do anything a normal child would do.
Despite All odds and information that was provided, Cody surpassed everyone's expectations at life. He walked, talked, fed himself, enjoyed wheelchair basketball, family gatherings, school, friends and mashed potatoes but most importantly, his double hamburger value meal at McDonald's, plain no toppings.
Cody endured multiple surgeries to help him with his feet. His back including Halo and wheelchair traction. Every time Cody came through better than anticipated.
He had the heart of a lion which is fitting because his first favorite and till the very end favorite movie was Lion King.
Cody took his first steps on his 6th birthday again proving everyone wrong. After that, he walked freely amongst the house and school hallways including stairs.
Cody's health plateaued for a number of years. Then the inevitable started to surface. Congenital myotonic dystrophy had Cody start life fighting hard then life would get better before it would decline again.
Over the past few years, Cody had weakened and faced numerous bouts of pneumonia. He always came through with few complaints.
You see Cody took life as it was given to him. He only knew struggle. What made him happy was watching his sisters and later in life his niece and nephew act and play like normal kids. This brought him such incredible Joy up until the night before his passing when we had an incredible immediate family gathering at his bedside. Cody's niece and nephew loved him to pieces and showered him with love leg massages and covering them up with blankets the night before his passing. Cody asked multiple times every single day when Jameson and the baby was coming over to see him.
At grade 8 graduation, Cody was handed a certificate award for giving the most hugs and high fives throughout his years at school. He walked up that stage and received it.
The last few years Cody was able to enjoy weekends at the trailer, concerts at the casino but the most meaningful to Cody was his Nephew Jameson and Niece Sophia. He loved visits from them.
Cody's superpower was to narrate Disney movies and music. He knew everything word for word and could always be found singing along to them.
From the bottom of our hearts, we'd like to thank you all for being apart of Cody's life, for the support you have shown his family over the years, but more importantly, now. This is the toughest time for them all, and all we can do is shower them with love, support and incredible memories.
