Mr. Augie needs our help.
Hello,
Our precious, big goof, sweetheart of a dog is in dire need of help. We are not typically ones who would reach out for help, but Mr. Augie is in a lot of pain and he is only a puppy (born 12-28-20). Unfortunately, he was dealt some bad cards and is suffering from not only hip dysplasia in both legs, but is also currently living with Osteochondrosis in his shoulders. We have tried supplements, rest, and other means suggested by veterinary professionals, but it seems we are at a devastating crossroads currently as he needs medical attention to stay with his family and have a good quality of life.
Augie has become such a huge part of our lives as a family. He brings so much joy to not only his human brother and sister (Liam - age 6, and Lola - age 13) and human mom and dad (Jaclyn and Mike), but has also created a better life and outlet for his doggy sister Birdie (age 1.5).
We have had many consults and have tried to determine the best route for our sweet guy moving forward, and the best chance at a happy and healthy life is to undergo surgeries for both of his hips, as well as a surgery to correct the osteochondrosis in his shoulders. If it were up to us, it would be an easy choice. Get Augie the surgery that he needs to continue to be the sweet boy that he is and live a long, happy life with his family. There in-lies the challenge.
Surgeries are very expensive (expected to be $4,300 per hip and $4,100 for his shoulders in addition to the funds to address the issue already and make sure he is a candidate, and aftercare), and in a time that our family is working to support our children the best way that we can, as well as our canine family members, we just cannot afford the cost to help Augie live the life that he deserves.
It is a difficult situation to have to ask for assistance, something that we pride ourselves on not needing in most situations, but when the circumstance arises, we are glad that there is a community of people out there who are hopefully willing to help.
If you can spare anything at all, it would go a long way, and be a huge foundation to helping not only the friendliest, most handsome, cuddliest family dog that we could ask for, but also helping the kids (and parents) who would be devastated to see our little (big) buddy be in pain and most likely have to leave us.
Thank you so much for listening to our story, and thank you in advance if you are able to help in any way. The world is a better place with young Augie in it, and our family intends to savor every special moment with him moving forward either way.
With Love, Lola, Liam, Jaclyn, and Mike (and Augie and Birdie of course).
