My story. In 2020 I had a successful Airbnb business and drove for Uber full time. All that changed on March 15 when Covid-19 hit and quarantines started. My Airbnb business was gone overnight. Uber rides slowed to half. My roommate of 6 years moved away and I had to pay double rent. Fortunately, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance kicked in and I was able to stay afloat for 6 months. Then the assistance dropped by 2/3 and I returned to drive for Uber. It was good for a while, then another lock down killed my Uber business in December.
At the same time all this was happening, my physical condition continued a steady decline. I have been in a wheelchair for almost a year. I need a double hip replacement. Thankfully, I was able to sign up for Medicare in January 2021. That will take care of the surgery.
I went on the Indeed job boards at the end of December 2020 and landed 2 interviews within 24 hours. Took a job that pays $18 per hour. Given my physical condition I was happy to find a job where I sit mostly all day.
Anyhow, the upshot is that I have 3 vacation days accrued so far. And only a little money saved. I will need 4-6 weeks off to recover from surgery and I will have no income at all during that time. Ideally, I was planning on saving monies in the next few months and then getting the surgery. The problem is that my condition is going downhill and soon I will not be able to work at all. So I need surgery now.
Monies raised will be used for rent, utilities and food during my recovery.
