Announcing the dream - Everest May 2023 in 2.5 weeks.

I have always dreamt of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, and have always thought it was impossible. Then 2 years ago, at the lowest point in my life, after losing a woman who meant love, a house that meant home, and a job that meant success, I took a 3 week solo trip to Everest Base Camp.

In December 2021, I stood beneath this magnificent mountain, the Mother Goddess of Earth, and decided that I shall do everything in my power to climb out of the hole I was in, and to make reaching the summit Mt Everest a reality.

I have since been on the most fortunate journey I could have imagined, with a supportive employer, Apollo Global Management, caring friends and family, my superhuman guides Pasang Dawa and Mingma G Sherpa, AltitudeCentre, who are preparing me for a rapid ascent in 2.5 weeks to make such a climb compatible with a job in private equity, and most of all, finding an unrelenting inner strength and boundless energy in the solitude of myself.

Climbing Everest is hard. I have under estimated the sacrifices it takes. The financial burden, the toll it takes on friendships and family who deeply worry about you, the inherent clash of priorities with work, the constant headaches and lack of sleep trying to pre-acclimatise in a hypoxic tent, the extreme physical pain of preparing your body to walk above the clouds at 8,000m+.

I have been fortunate enough to realise the difficulties I was in 2 years ago, and (literally) climb my way out of it, but many people are not. Many people struggle with mental health, but are too proud to admit it. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50.

Therefore I will dedicate this climb to mental health & Mind UK, and hope that it can inspire a few others around me to be honest about the everyday struggles and doubts we all go through.

In less than a month, I will leave for Everest, and attempt to climb it in 2.5 weeks. If you can spare some of your disposable income to help others struggling with mental health, and in such a way ‘join me on the climb” I would appreciate it ever so much.
