Life Without Mom - Emergency Moving Expenses

I'm starting this fundraiser to help my Sister-In-Law, Lisa Salerno, raise money for her emergency moving expenses.

In 2018, Lisa's Mother, Pat, was diagnosed with the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. At that time, Pat was still able to handle her own basic needs for a couple more years.

Fast forward to August 2020 and the family needed to make hard decisions in regards to Pat's care. The choices were to either place Mom in a nursing home, which wasn't really an option during the height of COVID, or have Lisa relocate from Chicago to care for her.

Lisa chose to give up her job and living arrangements in order to care for her elderly Mother. Lisa cared for her Mom from August 2020 until her passing on January 29, 2024.

Lisa was paid minimally by State Medicaid services and wasn't able to work outside the home during that time.

Lisa took on both the honor and hardship of caring for her elderly Mother. She watched day in and day out as her Mother slowly declined, didn't recognize her Daughter, fought with her Daughter and displayed all the typical symptoms that Alzheimer patients do. Lisa also had the honor of holding Mom's hand and being there when she took her final breaths.

Now that Mom is gone, Lisa is faced with both joblessness, and homelessness while also dealing with the grief that comes from losing a parent.

The house they were living in will be sold within a short time period of time. And while Lisa does have minimal savings, because of the state of the current housing market, it isn't enough to get into a place.

Lisa always goes above and beyond for others. Let's offer some kindness and compassion to someone who is truly in need at this time.
