Aid Nikolay Mantsevich's Medical and Home Expenses

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Vlad and I am Nikolay Mantsevich son. I was asked to help by my parents in setting this up. They would like to ask for any assistance and help that can be given to them in this time of need. Here is a bit of the background story behind what has been going on for the past 6 months to lead to this.

In January of this year, he had begun to develop some discomfort in his foot. Upon seeing his foot doctor he was told he had some athlete's foot. He was given a cream to treat it and sent on his way. When using the cream given after a few days he developed a redness and a burn between his toes and foot. He had gone to see the hospital but he could not get in to see his family doctor right away. On his first trip, he wasn't helped much and was not even fully examined. The hospital saw that he was a diabetic and right away began to say that this was due to neuropathy due to him being a diabetic. However, he had never had any issues prior and never had any pain until January. The hospital just discharged him with some pain medication and that's it, never even looked between his toes.

A week goes by and nothing gets better so they again have to go back into the hospital because things are not getting better but worse. This time again same thing happens they take him in look quickly, do not check his toes really do not take any cultures and just send him home. This time they told him and scheduled an appointment with the family doctor. They waited to make the appointment to see the family doctor to just be given the worst news possible. His doctor immediately gave him strong antibiotics and told him "Try this for two to three days if you do not see any sign of improvement immediately need to rush him to the hospital. You should probably just go now." They took them for two days and they believed that it was not getting better but on the contrary, things had turned worse.

On the first trip to the hospital when he was admitted he had tests run and was found to have multiple infections and that his middle toe on the right leg had gone necrotic and was dead. The infection had gone too far and nothing could be done but to amputate that one toe and work on saving the rest. This was done and things did not look promising from the get-go. However, they kept him for a few days and discharged him while still infected at homecare. Homecare was a real mess day they would come then would not come for days nearly a week. His condition got worse and worse. To a point where again his family doctor saw him and told him to immediately go to the Hospital because he was now developing wet gangrene. He did so however this time he needed to go to a different hospital location to get the help he needed.

When admitting him they ran more tests and found that he now also contracted MRSA to add to everything else. They come with the idea of taking half his foot or less. They decided on taking the corner of his foot with the two smaller toes so that this would stop the infection being it did not seem to be spreading to the left side where the big toe is, however, this again did not work. Again he was in after this surgery for ten days being looked after and then discharged. The staples had not been removed and just sent home with at-home care again. Unfortunately, things did not heal as needed. When my father had gone in to have the staples removed the area just opened up, as if the surgery was done the night prior. The area had again gone necrotic and developed gangrene. He was taken right away to the hospital for an emergency rush surgery. This time the amputation was done right below the knee.

Now six months later with over a month of hospital stays, three amputation surgeries, and two weeks at an inpatient rehab we are here. His insurance is not covering everything from what we are now finding out. To add to all the bills thus far he was told at last doctor's visit that they do not like the healing process and will need to have him go in for a hyperbaric chamber for oxygen treatments to help with the healing process. However to add to the expenses they need retrofitting the home for a handicapped individual. He was also told to change his diet to help with what was happening in his body. He was advised to stay away from GMO foods.

My parents had asked to see if there was any kind of help that could be had in this type of situation and I really could not think of anything but possibly trying this with GoFundMe. I will post weekly or biweekly updates for those who donate and will answer any questions some have via email. I would also like to give some background on my father Nikolay. He was born on March 1st 1953. He had worked his whole life here in America until he was medically retired due to poisoning. However, he never gave up his pension was so low being we are not originally from America but from Ukraine and he did not have enough years of paying into Social Security. He continued to work and do what he could with his health. He and my mother had never wanted to rely on anyone so they kept going as they could and did not apply for government assistance. They felt as long as they have strength and health they will be productive. Before this happened my father was unable to walk hence work, they did DoorDash even though at times even that was difficult. They just had always been self-sustaining. I know it took a lot for them to reach out and ask for this to be done for them. I hope that everyone who reads this has a wonderful day and if not in donations please help us in lifting our father in prayer for I know he still has lots to offer and will once again be a productive member and be on his legs. Thank you everyone for the time taken to read our need at this time.
