Michael Inthasoroth + COVID-19

As many of you know, New York is currently our country's highest COVID-19 hot spot and can quickly escalate to be the world's next epicentre in this crisis.  They are currently just under 60,000 confirmed cases and are rapidly approaching 1,000 deaths.

My family has been personally affected as my BIL, Mike Inthasoroth, was recently hospitalized with complications related to the virus.

Quick recap: Mike traveled to the DMV area early in March for my grandmother's funeral.   Upon returning to NY, he only commuted outside his home to get work files and supplies to prepare to work from home.  He was strictly abiding by the social distancing guidelines given by the government and ceased all social gatherings and non-essential outings.  He wore a mask and gloves and was obsessively sanitizing.  He was also an advocate to “Stay Home” and was being very responsible.  THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH.

Mike slowly developed symptoms including a low grade fever and body aches and was advised by his doctor to stay home and self-medicate.  This gradually escalated to more severe symptoms to include leg pains, coughing and shortness of breath.  He was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital on Madison Avenue in NYC on March 26th and has been there ever since.

The virus had manifested to pneumonia in both of his lungs and was depriving his body of oxygen.  He was very lucky as he was put on hydroxychloroquine which was approved in the US just a couple days before he was admitted.  He is not yet in the clear but we are hopeful as he is making small strides to breathe on his own and will hopefully be released from the hospital soon.

Our family was left feeling terrified and helpless as we waited to hear updates on his condition.  There are no visitors allowed in the hospital so he has been isolated and alone.  Up-to-date calls from the medical staff have been scarce as they are hugely understaffed and overloaded.  There was a 2-day period where we were very scared as doctors were concerned about his recovery and he was not improving.

I want to reiterate that Mike is a healthy 37 year old.  He has only contracted the flu once in his life and had never been hospitalized before this virus.  He was in great health and had no underlying conditions.  This virus affects everyone differently and the young are not excluded.  COVID-19 does not discriminate.  Please take this as a lesson to keep everyone safe.  Stay home.

As traumatizing as this whole experience has been, we’d like to extend our gratitude to the wonderful medical staff at Mount Sinai GP8 Center.  The doctors, nurses, technicians, all the way down to the hospital concierges have been amazing at being on the forefront of this battle.  They continue to do their job with a smile while working overtime and with limited resources.

We are raising money to provide meals and supplies to the Mount Sinai Medical staff to show them our appreciation for taking care of Mike while we aren't physically able to be there.  Deliveries to the hospital are limited so we thought one big gift was better than various donations.  Any contribution, big or small, is truly appreciated.  100% of the money raised will go to benefiting the medical staff and I truly believe will help make an impact in their coming days.

Please keep your prayers and good vibes going up to Mike + Mina and everyone affected in New York and around the world.

Thanks in advance from the bottom of our <3s.
