"Family is not an important thing. It's everything."
Michael J. Fox
Aloha Everyone,
On December 22th, 2014 Kayla came down with severe headaches. At first they thought it was because of her wisdom teeth, but when they went to the dentist he said nothing was wrong. They immediately took her to the ER because the headaches were so severe.
At the ER, they did an MRI and a tumor was found in Kayla's brain. Emergency surgery was performed to drain the fluid that had been building up and to get a biopsy or possibly remove the tumor . It was unsuccessful.
After the swelling went down they did another MRI and the tumor had grown, it is now the size of a golf ball. As soon as they got the results they flew to the mainland to seek treatment. At this time they are talking to doctors from Stanford, UCSF, UCLA and the Skull brain Institute hoping to find the best possible solution. We do not know if it is malignant/benign or the severity of it but it is starting to affect her vision.
Kayla just turned 19, is a recent graduate of Kamehameha and is a very special person. I've known her father from when we were kids, Kayla isn't my best friend's daugther, she's family. Since Kayla was born I have never seen him so happy. She has been his greatest inspiration, has brought him his greatest joys and is truly the love of his life.
With Pono and Jenn on the mainland seeking care for Kayla, they aren't able to work and are incurring new expenses. I am humbly asking you to help save Kayla's life. If you can find a way to open your hearts and donate it would be amazing. ANYTHING HELPS.
Feel free to share your experiences and offer words of support! Give what you can and keep Kayla in your prayers.
Love and Aloha,
Michael J. Fox
