My niece, her husband and their two daughters are Christian missionaries in a village in Northern Mozambique. Most of the local people don’t have formal employment and eat what they can grow on 1-2 hectares of land. Many don’t produce enough food to last the entire year, let alone pay for clothes, school fees and other necessities.
The Professional-Technical Institute of Chicolone is a vocational training college located just a few kilometres from where my relatives live and they have been helping with building work there. The school has a 3-year agriculture course that teaches young people effective farming methods so that they can return to their communities and help families transition from subsistence to commercial farming.
The Institute wants to build and equip a general chemistry and soil/plant tissue testing laboratory. The laboratory will serve farmers throughout Niassa Province (Northern Mozambique) and provide vital information about soil health, nutrient levels and input recommendations. This is the project that I would like to raise some funds for.
