Mowgli’s Fight for Life

Update 12/4:
FIP used to be considered terminal with no hope until recently. A new medication available has a cure rate of 80%-93% efficacy. THIS IS INCREDIBLE NEWS!

Mowgli can be cured! He doesn’t have to have his life shortened so suddenly.

He will need daily shots of this medication for 84 days. This medication comes in 5ml vials, needing 2-3 vials a week. Each vial costs $45, requiring about 36 vials for 84 days of treatment, making it a total of $1620 for his duration of therapy- not including costs of syringes and prep equipment.

$18- If you would like to support one dose/day of Mowgli’s medication, donate $18.
$45- if you would like to support one vial of Mowgli’s medication, donate $45.
$135- if you would like to support one week of Mowgli’s treatment, donate $135.

Thank you for your continued support and donations to save Mowgli’s life. He is fighting, getting stronger each day, with a will to live his fullest life. Thank you for helping him get his life back.

Update 11/28:
Mowgli’s biopsies and fluids were negative for cancer! The vet doesn’t believe he has lymphoma anymore. They are now considering Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) Coronavirus. This is still a challenging diagnosis, but one with more hope. He will need continued support with medications, foods, and specialty care, but the vet said he may gain his strength back, and he may have more time.

The fight is long from over. This disease has a treatment option that could extend his life expectancy or potentially cure altogether. He already seems better and better each day, slowly but surely. If you can, please help by donating to Mowgli’s next step in treatment. Thank you to those of you who have already donated; you have helped get us this far.

He is fighting. Thank you for fighting beside him.

Original Post:
Mowgli, who just celebrated his 9th birthday this month, had to take an emergency trip to the vet on Wednesday, November 23rd, after extreme stomach bloating and decreased appetite. After they ran some tests, drained two liters of fluid from his abdomen, and gave him a fancy new haircut, Mowgli was rushed to a specialist at another emergency clinic for further treatment and was able to come home late last evening with sad news. Mowgli is awaiting the biopsy results to confirm his diagnosis of Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.

For those who already know him, big boy Mowgli (aka Mr. Mowgelsworth, Moogles, Moo-Cow, Sweet Prince, King) is a very friendly cat, who loves all those around him, eager to sit on friends' laps or be picked up and slung over your shoulder, scarfing around your neck. He has a knack for always finding the tallest person in the room and begging to be picked up, excited to become tall himself. If this food fiend weren’t smacking tortilla chips out of your hand for himself or losing his mind over popcorn, he would be lounging on any surface, purring all the while. When this gentle giant finds you lying on the couch or the bed, he flops beside your head, offering his warm belly asking to be laid upon and used as a pillow, and ferociously begins purring once you do, often falling asleep with you snuggling on top of him.

I adopted Mowgli when he was a kitten back in December of 2013. He has always been a healthy cat with no medical concerns, which makes this diagnosis when he is still so young in his lifecycle so shocking. Lymphoma has a dismal prognosis with an average of two to nine months life expectancy post-diagnosis. There are two treatment options for Lymphoma, both of which are expensive, but both of which could take away his pain and offer him a little more time on this earth.

Mowgli has both changed and saved my life throughout our nine years on this journey of life together. The least I can do is fight for him- for his health, his comfort, and our time together. His little brother, a 4-year-old mini-Mowgli black cat named Moose, and I are doing all we can to support him and make his final stretch as easy and enjoyable for him as possible.

His initial emergency visit and specialty transfer cost $3,357.40 USD, with an additional need to purchase specialty foods, new specialty litter, and medications for upwards of $375. These prices don’t include his treatment options, ranging between $5,000-$10,000.
(Update: November 25 emergency visit cost an additional $2,730.83).

What I am asking for is any help over this Thanksgiving 2022 is anything you can donate to help cover Mowgli’s emergency expenses, provide funding for his comfort as he settles in for his final stretch, and, if able, cover the opportunity for treatment to take away his pain and give him a little more time on this planet.

Hug your fur babies and loved ones a little closer this holiday season; you never know when it may be their last.

With love,
Morgan, Moose, and Mowgli
