Coming Soon: A Parkinsons podcast with attitude

A Parkinson's podcast - with attitude!

My name's Andi and a couple of years ago, at 70 and on the eve of retirement, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's. A shock for sure, but I met the challenge head-on, taking up group singing, dancing, yoga and even boxing. What's next for our intrepid Parky - ping pong perhaps?

I have a popular blog called Moving and Shaking that readers have called funny and inspiring. This isn't your parent's disease story. Within the next couple of months, my blog will have a sibling - a podcast! Join me, a bunch of Parkies who will share their own stories, research scientists and other experts who will explain why some people receive a jolt of creativity when they're diagnosed, how boxing rewires the brain, and the benefits of improv training.

In addition to the experts, we'll be talking with regular folks with Parkinson's - that's you and me - like a college consultant who's become a talented painter, a human rights attorney turned poet, and another lawyer who's now composing symphonies.

Oh yeah, guess I should cut to the chase - the money part! Funds raised will go towards costs of production, including
  • Headphones and a quality microphone
  • Site visits. Example: ping pong gym, rock climbing facility
  • An editor (To say I'm not very tech-savvy is an understatement). This is the biggest expense.

If you're looking for a few laughs, even as your leg is clenching up this very moment (mine is), and you just want to get into bed, you've come to the right place. That's right, we've got shits (if we're lucky) and giggles. It's (sigh) another day in Parkyland.

You can help me reach more people with PD and educate those who don't have it but would like to learn more by supporting the podcast. I appreciate any help you can offer. Many thanks!

One last thing - I've been invited to visit PD support groups and other organizations to share my story - about my illness, how and why I created the blog, the amazing people I've met along the way, and, of course, my plans for the podcast. If you're interested in having me visit your group, you can email me at andib88atcomcastdotnet.
