As many of you already know Coleman was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in April 2020. Since then we have done radiation, chemotherapy, surgeries and so much more. Last week Coleman had a PET scan showing progression of the cancer. As you can imagine this was discouraging news. We spoke with our oncologist and his suggestion is to add more chemotherapy probably with more horrible side effects. Of course me being me, I started reading all sorts of medical journals, researched medical trials being done across the country, talked to all my healthcare friends trying to find something that will help Coleman heal. Finally, God led me to several books talking about healing your cancer with a more holistic approach. Which then led me to a treatment facility in California (Cancer Center for Healing) that utilizes low dose chemotherapy (to minimize side effects) and other aggressive integrative treatments designed to kill the cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy cells. As you can imagine I was very intrigued with this idea since Coleman has suffered nearly every possible side effect from traditional western medicine. We don't know if this integrative holistic approach will have the desired effect, but we figure it's worth a shot. This doesn't mean we are eschewing all traditional chemo; we just think the addition of treatments based on cutting edge research may provide the extra push required to reverse the tumor growth.
So, we have decided to take a huge leap of faith and move our family to Irvine, California for 3 months so Coleman can undergo these treatments. Our oncologist will support us by monitoring from afar via labs and scans. This is where all of you come in. These kinds of intensive holistic treatments are not covered by insurance. We don't yet know the exact treatments the doctors at this clinic will recommend, but we estimate it will cost around $10,000/week for a minimum of 10-12 weeks. This is all out-of-pocket expense. It's always awkward asking for money, but this cancer journey has put us in many awkward situations. We are asking for financial support from our friends and family to help offset the cost of the treatments and housing. Please do not feel obligated to donate. However, loved-ones continue asking how they can help, so we have created this go fund me page.
We have high hopes that this California facility will be able to make a real, measurable impact on the cancer's growth. Please continue sending prayers and positive vibes in our direction.
