Hi! I'm Grace, a 3rd year student in Concordia's film production program. My crew and I are currently in pre-production for my film, Moving Out, which will be shot this November.
Synopsis
After stumbling upon a childhood letter written to her future self, 30-year old Ali is magically confronted by her 10-year old self; eager and curious to learn what her future holds. When Ali's resistance to reveal her future to her younger self is met with disappointment (and a bit of tween angst,) Ali must decide if lying to protect her younger self outweighs disclosing her upsetting reality.
Funding
As the director of a student crew, I strive to keep our production as budget-friendly, environmentally conscious and healthy as possible! However, certain costs such as transportation for our equipment & crew, location rentals and nutritious meals to feed our team add up, and are not always easy to control.
All donations received will go towards making this project come to life and taking care of the filmmakers, actors and artists working on this film.
Director's Intention
My favourite films are rooted in honesty. When characters are depicted in truthful, messy and realistic ways, people are able to see themselves represented and feel understood in moments that cannot often be expressed as honestly in our everyday conversations.
My intention is to create work that encapsulates the differences in desires that people have at different ages. With an adult and a child who learn from each other, this story serves as a reminder that our childlike souls can be a source of comfort and inspiration, while we grow up into the person who would have protected our younger selves.
I find cinema to be a powerful way to express feelings we often aren’t able to formally speak of. I believe we need more emotionally honest media as an outlet for release, as people frequently struggle internally especially when it comes to loss; of a loved one, a dream, or even your childhood.
Creative Experience
As a student, I truly feel honoured to have the privilege to direct a film with the assistance and guidance of my peers, mentors and professors as I pursue my degree. I strive to create a comfortable set where we can learn from each other and grow as filmmakers. I also intend to collaborate on the musical score for this film and involve as many artists as possible: From composers, recordists, art directors as well as child actors and adults alike- as when artists come together to create, the process becomes a masterpiece of collaboration & creativity revealed by the product as a reflection of our community.
