In November 2016, my daughter, Cherie’, was on her way home from work and was hit by a drunk driver. The accident, unfortunately, has caused tremendous complications to her life physically, mentally, and financially. She will be having back surgery “again” on February 11th to repair the reinjured disc she had already been successfully recovering from a year earlier. Not only did the accident cause injury to her physically, it has created a financial nightmare to her daily existence.
Cherie’s car was totaled in the accident. Her insurance covered the rental for 30 days, and then nothing. She was forced to buy a car in order for her to get to work. The situation has caused a financial hardship to where she has to decide between a car payment and food or rent. No one should have to make a decision like this when you didn’t cause the chaos. However she has a fight on her hands to recoup the financial hardship this drunk driver has placed in her life. She has retained an attorney, but all of these things will take months to resolve. However she needs help right now to get through these next few months of recovery and uncertainty. Cherie’ had tried to continue working with a positive attitude and outlook, despite the circumstances, but the doctors have already relieved her of her duties at work much earlier than anticipated due to the increasing daily pain in her back and the nerve down her leg, not to mention finding the right dosages of medications that will alleviate some of the bad reactions she has been experiencing. If you know Cherie’ and her work ethic, she is struggling to deflate the anxiety of not being able to take care of her responsibilities independently.
As her mother, you never want to see your child suffer unnecessarily no matter what age they are. We, her Dad and I, believe there is still kindness and generosity among family and friends. We believe that when someone is in need, we reach out with faith and hope. Sometimes life hands you a terrible hand, but that doesn’t mean someone should suffer alone. She is a single mother. It has always been up to her to provide the complete support for her and Khalil, and she has gone to lengths not many would ever consider to make sure her family was cared for. The bills are piling up, disability will not start for weeks, and we would like to ask any and all of those who know Cherie’ to help us support her during this very difficult time. The last thing we and the doctors want to see is her to go in to a depression. We want to alleviate as much stress as possible from her plate so she can focus on being positive for her upcoming surgery/recovery. We are reaching out to all of our family and friends to help us help Cherie’ by showing her love and kindness with some temporary help while she is trying to get back on her feet during this hardship. We appreciate all the support for our daughter at this time. Thank you and God Bless You. Carol
