Moving Forward: Help After Losing Both Parents
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Holly. Before I ask you for anything, I would like you to understand who I am and the reason for the goal I am attempting to reach.
Many years ago, I moved a mobile home onto my elderly parents property so that I could help take care of them. I was on call 24/7 no matter what their needs were (from calls to switch the TV to AV so that they could watch DVDs to serious middle of the night falls). I drove them to their doctor appointments and brought my mom to her chemo and radiation sessions. I cleaned up accidents, changed sheets, and mopped floors. I helped manage their bills, medications and home health. For anything that they needed, I was there.
My love for my parents (who were two of the most amazing people I have ever known) was strong enough for me to walk away from a full-time job and decent yearly salary in order that their physical needs were met each day. While I did secure an at-home as-needed position with the same non-profit where I worked for 12 years, my husbands monthly disability became our main source of income. Still, I would not have traded all of the wealth in the world for the time I was able to spend caring for my mom and dad. For 15+ years my parents were the center of my world.
Next month (April) will make 1 year ago that my husband and I were able to move back into our mobile home after Hurricane Ida seriously damaged it. We lived for 2 years in a small camper next door while we slowly had all of the damage repaired. Damage was extensive and we had made our last payment on it just four days before Ida put a 50 year-old pecan tree on it.
Then just right before Christmas (moms favorite holiday) I lost both my dad (12-21-23) and my mom (12-22-23). I am unable to verbally express the emptiness and pain in my heart (which is just crushed). Because my parents had a reverse mortgage on their property and the legality of parish ordinances, I am left with no other choice than to move my mobile home. The reverse mortgage company has given me until June 21, 2023.
I have been diligently searching for a small parcel of land to purchase via owner financing (my income-to-debt ratio is such that I cannot qualify for a traditional mortgage). I do have the down payment and I do have the funds to pay mobile home movers. However, I am lacking enough to pay to have our porch and ramp (which my husband needs to be able to get into the home) taken apart to be moved. I do not have enough to pay for any land improvements such as clearing, culvert, water lines or septic. That is where your help is most needed. I understand that our economy is such that many people are struggling and under normal circumstances I would not ask for help. However, I am running out of time and I am starting to panic.
I am prayerfully trusting that God has a plan and a place for my husband and I. All that I can ask of friends and strangers is that you let the Lord guide your heart. Whether he leads you to donate a dollar or simply to share this and pray, I thank you. May you be blessed.
