Moving for Maas

Scott and I are challenging each other to run our first marathon this fall with the intention of raising money for medical treatment for Brian Maas. As many of you know, Brian was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer this winter.  

This has been a difficult time for him and his family.  Brian has been out of work on disability since February and his wife went out on disability relating to pregnancy complications in May.  Their daughter ended up being born at 32 weeks and has been in the NICU at Golisano Children's Hospital.  Stress is high and money is tight. Through it all, they have handled each new obstacle with amazing stamina and determination.  

So why are we running a marathon to raise funds?  Because we feel that a marathon is symbolic of what Brian is facing right now.  Completing 26.1 miles will require mental fortitude and physical strength.  The distance seems daunting and overwhelming but we plan to achieve our goal.  We expect it to be difficult, we expect there may be a time or two when it would be easier to quit than continue, but we hope to tackle the challenges with the same determination we see right now in Brian's fight.  

So often people raise money for charity runs and the money goes to an organization.  If you join our team and support us on this journey, 100% of your donations will go directly to Brian to use towards medical expenses and cost of living.  

When Scott first told me about his brother, he said that Brian was the type of guy that would do anything for those he cares about.  Over the last 11+ years, I've seen for myself that he is fiercely loyal to his friends and family.  He is now counting on all of us to join his fight.  Brian is truly one of the most wonderful people who I have ever met, and Scott and I are committed to doing whatever it takes to help him. We know that we can count on all of you to help out as well.  We want to personally thank each of you for your support.
