Moving expenses to relocate Fayda Islamic Institute

Greetings. My name is Mujahid Abdul-Karim and I am the Founder/Director of Fayda Islamic Institute. I am seeking financial assistance to relocate to Baltimore, MD in June. There are three reasons why I am relocating. First, I am entering into the PhD program in History at Morgan State University. I will begin this Fall 2024. My dissertation topic will be "Principles of Islamic Law and the Racial Stratification of Slavery in West Africa: The case of the Haratin of Mauritania."

The second reason is to seek to establish Islamic Studies as a major at the Morgan State University. Currently, no HBCU has such a major. I will be making a proposal to the President and Board of the university and lobby for what I am calling the "Umar Bin Said Center for Islamic Studies." With the proper funding and support, we can establish a Grassroots Islamic Studies program that will bring forward research on topics where the Grassroots Community has been ignored and under-represented. As a leading HBCU, Morgan State University is ideal for this project.

The third reason is to establish Fayda Islamic Institute as a traditional mahdhara where students will be able to study the classical texts of Islam. Our curriculum can be found on our website cited below. Our intention is to temporarily rent a house or townhouse with a basement and conduct one on one lessons for students seeking to study the texts in our curriculum. I intend to bring one of our teachers from Mauritania, Shaykh Bwee, who will live in the Fayda House and teach full-time. Students will be able to pursue academic Islamic Studies degrees and traditional ijazas simultaneously. It will be a one-of-a-kind situation that will bring a great benefit for the Muslim Community.

What I need to make this all happen is about $6000. I need to rent a U-Haul moving truck to transport the Fayda Library of books, ship my personal vehicle from Atlanta to Baltimore and put the two months' rent down to move in the house or townhouse. This will enable me to transition with ease and set everything up for the coming of Shaykh Bwee from Mauritania and Fayda Islamic Institute.
