Thank you all so, so much, for your generosity. Kathleen and her family and I are touched and overwhelmed by your love and support. Upon closer examination of what the ACTUAL expenses will be of this move, several are higher than we'd originally accounted for, including, but not limited to:
All season tires cost is closer to $700
Extra truck expenses including gas, food, and lodging for movers, $1000
Airfare for helpers, extra $400
Bariatric bed rental in new place for 2 months, $600
Due to these extra expenses we need to raise the fundraiser goal to $6900. We are getting close but need your help to get our dear friend into the loving environment she so richly deserves! Kathleen Comalli Dillon is one of the most generous people I know. She works every day to support her community of friends as well as those folks she knows who are marginalized by disability and chronic illness, as she is. She loves doing research and patient education.
We have a wonderful chance to repay her for all she contributes to the world! Kathleen's daughter and daughter-in-law are buying their first house this fall and have asked her to move in with them. She will live near family, in Bonnie and Amira’s accessible house in western Michigan --all she has to do is get there. This will involve:
--U-haul rental, plus packing of all her belongings at almost $3K
--Veterinary visits and travel certificates for her 3 feline family members, $500
--Medication and supplements for lipoedema not covered by insurance, $450
--All-season tires for her car, $280-350
--Airfare, $309
--Transpo for kitties, $100-200
--Mobility supplies to outfit her new digs (grab bars, shower chair, grippy bathmats, etc)
Some of these supplies can be found on her Amazon wishlist (linked in first comment) if you prefer to donate that way. We'd love to have these expenses covered ASAP--she hopes to be ready to move by 24 October, and many of these expenses will need to be paid well before a moving date, such as truck deposit, veterinary care, travel reservations, etc. Even a dollar or two helps a lot!
COVID19 has made it more difficult for kcd to get the care she needs, living alone--to make things even more difficult, in her current apartment, she has had to deal with a belligerent management that makes no attempt to meet her needs, and increases stress with frequent inspections and general unkindness. Let's help her make this transition so she can be safe and surrounded by loving family. Her home address may change, but her love for her friends and colleagues is a constant. Please share this with your friends.
