Pandemic Relocation (moving fund)

Be strong enough to stand alone, Smart enough to KNOW when you need help, and BRAVE enough to ask for it.

Hey everyone,

Cornelius here, asking for support on getting back to NYC. During the start of the pandemic I was living in Brooklyn, NY where I have been for the past 5 years since graduating from YSD. However my living situation quickly became fragile once my roommates who I currently were living with decided not to pay rent, and to move out of the residence. Putting me in a very tough situation between my landlords and I. Originally, they said they would relocate me to another residence, however once all my roommates vacated, they enter my apartment unannounced saying they were doing inspections, a total violation of our lease.  I was very uncomfortable living in my four bedroom apartment alone, then to add harassment from my landlords really made me feel as a stranger in my own apartment. After the unannounced visit from my landlords, I decided to go home, in a manner of days. I quickly put my things in storage, cleaned the apartment, and left. Knowing that the school year would be approaching and fingers cross I'd be employed once more as a teaching artist.

Sadly, my visit to Michigan reminded why I left Michigan. Domestic Abuse, is real. PERIODT.  However once you know better, you do better. I know much better and therefore boundaries have been established with those who's love language of abuse I no longer tolerate. Those are the individuals who you usually call when you need help.

I have nothing but LOVE for my family, however their support is not there. I am hoping my chosen family might be able to assist me with relocating. I am living in Bedstuy with 2 other Black male educators. Our lease starts Oct 1st. I have paid (my deposit, my first month's rent, MA's and my air fare, my storage, etc). I do know however that with moving there becomes miscellaneous cost that occur. I would like this transition to go as smooth as possible so I am asking for help. I've been in NYC for 5 years realize this is my city.  It's where my family is, my various communities, and my passion.

I struggled writing this because, I do not expect handouts. I tend to think I work for what I want. However this pandemic has humbled me immensely. I can not get through life, or to NYC alone.   Teaching has changed for me, and virtual learning will start the second week of October.  My biggest fear right now is getting to NYC and not having funds for a rainy day or for some unforeseen issue.

If you have it in your heart, and in your wallet to assist me I'd greatly GREATLY appreciate it.
