Moving and Medical Care

Donation protected

Help send us back to Portland, OR so I can get the medical care I need and my husband doesn't drop trying to move the earth for us. Between my health issues and JR's Type II Diabetes, the resources to get help aren't here. Getting us to where they are available all falls on JR both physically and financially.

I have numerous health problems. A skin disease over 100% of my body, one and possibly two forms of arthritis, chronic depression, anxiety, PTSD, a neurological disorder, and a few more that I could list. Many of those leave me in a lot of pain and make things like feeding myself and dressing myself an enormous effort without help. He gives me that help.

After four years, we realized it's not possible to get the medical care I need here. Doctors here have told us I need to be back in Portland. The drier climate of southern Oregon causes more problems, painful ones at that, for my skin disease

JR's four years of  teaching makes him a very appealing hire now. Unfortunately in southern Oregon, teachers are paid some of the lowest wages in the state, hence why we haven't the money for the move.  Even coming up with gas money for the ten hour round trip drives to Portland for job interviews is eating in to our grocery money.

My health problems make the entire move fall on JR. The packing, loading a truck, driving it and then unpacking it. We have friends in the Portland area who will help us unload the truck.  This is good because JR'll still be helping me with my daily physical care routine, too. Can he do this? Yes, but it'll be very difficult.

We'll have to dip in to his summer paycheck to pay moving and depost costs instead of paying our regular monthly expenses, within a week of moving back to the Portland area, he's going to have to get a job so that we can keep the new roof over our heads and get food.

Can you help us get there? Can you help my husband be able to take a deep breath this summer instead of working himself to death now only to start doing it again in the fall when he's back in the classroom?

I'm afraid that if he shoulders all this work, combined with caring for me and his diabetes, he could collapse. Help me help him by hiring people to load the van, do the move out and carpet cleaning, pay for the applications and security checks plus the deposits on a new place. Every little bit will help. Him not having to slog through the rest of the summer trying to find work to pay the bills 'til he's back in the classroom means that he also will be able to go with me to all the new doctor appointments, and for him to go to the doctor and better manage his diabetes. I love him; the only way I can help him while he's doing everything in his power to take care of me is by asking others for help.
