In 2012 I attended the Berlin Movement Camp and everything changed. That week was one of the most challenging weeks of my life. I watched everything I thought I knew crumble in front of me. I can't pin the exact moment I knew everything had changed but by the end of the week I was certain of two things: Ido had something important and I needed it in my life.
I remember sitting there with wide eyes listening to one of Ido's lectures. His words were poetic. His stories left you with nostalgia for something you never had. But it wasn’t just linguistic romance that caught my attention, Ido’s method made SENSE. None of these pseudo scienctific quotes, photoshopped onto a stock photo that our generation worships religiously. Ido used both science and logic and expected the same from his students. I remember my Sports Acrobatics coach explaining to me how my partner had an extra bone in her knee that he was going to melt by rubbing some Russian Tiger Balm on it. This is the sort of science I had gotten used to. Ido’s method was a lifeline in a sea of shit.
It wasn’t just his words though. Ido’s movements had a beauty and freedom to them. His demos were impressive. They showcased incredible skill and were meticulously performed. I had seen impressive performances before but Ido's were different. I found myself noticing the way Ido moved through life when no one in particular was watching him. There was something deliberate about his movements, everything he did looked unconsciously calculated. I tried to imitate him, to move like that, but my floppy body betrayed me.
It wasn’t just Ido who moved with purpose though. Ido was creating a tribe of beautiful movers, each one more impressive than the next. I was hooked. Since then, I have devoted myself fully to learning movement from Ido and the team. It has become my “raison d’être. Obsession doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Today, on my birthday I would like to give something back. I am setting up a PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIP to the movement camp. I want to give the gift of this life altering week to someone special. I’m looking for someone with a belly growling for knowledge. Someone who’s world needs to be shaken and set upright. A person who couldn’t make ends meet this year but HAS to be at Movement Camp.
If this sounds like you, and you think you might be a good candidate for the partial scholarship, tell me your story.

I have put away some money, and my incredibly generous mother has donated as well but it’s not enough. I’m turning to you Facebook. Help me celebrate my birthday by donating to this scholarship. Anything you can give will help and I will love you forever for aiding my birthday celebration.
Thanks for reading (and donating ;P ),
