Re-Evaluation of T-Loop Legal Case

Donation protected
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will soon begin construction on a turn-around loop for the T-line in a location that does not fit the current requirements of the area’s transportation needs.  The SFMTA is beginning this work based on a 1998 study, has refused to adequately address California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements, and has ignored years of community protest against the proposed location.

The Committee for the Re-evaluation of the T-Line Loop was formed several years ago to work with the City and the SFMTA to assist the agencies to understand the significant changes that have occurred in the area during the last 17 years and to provide a venue for community discussion and involvement.  When the SFMTA ignored community input and continued with plans to develop the loop around 18th, Illinois, and 19th Streets, the Committee brought legal action to require SFMTA to comply with CEQA requirements.

The Committee has been successful in winning a stay order from the California Court of Appeal to prevent temporarily further work on the project.  We are now asking for community support to help fund legal costs to continue work on the suit.

The proposed loop ignores these issues:

·         A loop already exists only 0.6 miles south of the proposed site at the Muni Metro East facility.

·         Significant development has occurred south of 19th Street – apartments, condominiums, the 22nd Street business corridor – whose transportation needs will be ignored by the proposed site.

·         The proposed site is adjacent to Potrero Kids preschool and will bring danger, noise, and vibration to the school.

·         The proposed site ignores development of Pier 70, Crane Cove Park, Bayview and Hunters Point.

·         The proposed site ignores traffic concerns related to the development of the new Warriors Stadium in Mission Bay.

·         The proposed site ignores the need for an updated traffic plan that considers existing traffic from AT&T Park, the new UCSF hospital, the proposed Warriors Stadium and flows to the 280 and 101 freeways via 18th Street and Illinois Street.

We need your support to continue pursuing legal action to require SFMTA and the City to study their proposal in the light of 2015 requirements and to provide the necessary.  Please contribute what you can to help the community to re-evaluate the T-line Loop.
