Move to Washington, DC for new opportunities

My name is Jennifer.
In 2023, I thought I was being granted an excellent opportunity to move to Los Angeles and work in a new field. By the time I was able to secure funding to move, housing, a plane ticket and move, things had changed unbeknownst to me. I met my potential employer on a Thursday for lunch and by Tuesday when I was scheduled to start (she had to be in court on Monday), she had put off hiring me.

It had taken me over 3 years to find a permanent position, and when I did, it barely paid more than I had been making in 2020. I had had some contract roles and did (and still do) some per diem work for a travel agency, but nothing more.

In May of 2025, I was given the green light to work fully remotely, so prepared to move out of California. I moved to Florida in July and while I won't call it a mistake, it is very much a lesson learned. I learned not to move somewhere without fully investigating the important things like location, transportation and other things. I am a little over a mile from the nearest store (Target), a little over half a mile from the nearest bus stop. I have spent more money on rideshares since moving here than I did in the last 2 years combined. It is unsustainable. I do not drive, but even if I did, I do not make enough money to cover a car payment, gas, maintenance and insurance.

While my current residence is safe, things are changing that I am not comfortable with. I am struggling to find space for groceries which means paying more for delivery from apps. I have found an apartment in a good area that I can afford on my current salary. It is near a bus line and at least one grocery store. It is also near a bike path. I can get a bicycle and that would give me additional freedom of movement that I don't have here. Thankfully, my current company will allow me to work remotely from anywhere in the country, not just Florida or California. This gives me the flexibility to move to a better location.

What I need now is a bit of financial assistance to assist me in moving once again. I am looking at Charleston, South Carolina because I have contacts there and I have always liked it there. The money will be used to cover moving expenses (first, security, internet, utilities) and some will be used to purchase items like a bed, mattress, kitchen items and a desk and chair so that I can work.

I am asking for $5000 to ensure that I am able to move to a city that I am familiar with and have friends in and a city in which I can be a better version of myself.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
