Move Move Collaborative's Expanding Universe
Donation protected
The Move Move Collaborative is departure from the standard dance company. We are a temporary ensemble that comes together once a year to create a performance piece during a ten-day movement intensive. The ensemble consists of artists/dancers/movers from Baltimore, across the North America and beyond. Together we train, share meals, and create performance where all creative decisions are made by consensus. It is powerful work, listening to, living alongside, and being in dialogue with other artists about all the aspects of performance. Move Move welcomes artists/dancers/movers from all backgrounds. The structure of the temporary ensemble enables a deepening of personal and performative somatic practices.
We are committed to the Baltimore creative community. We offer access to space and the opportunity to work with renowned teaching artists, at no cost to the participants.
When Peter Redgrave began the Move Move Collaborative in 2017, he was working as a middle school teacher in Baltimore City Schools. Up until now, Peter financed the humble operation out of his own pocket. This includes renting the training space, preparing meals, paying musicians, and organizing the events. In June 2018, he decided to leave teaching and pursue movement and performance full time. This has increased the network across the country and around the world of those who are interested in Move Move; however, it has limited his financial resources. We are excited about the shift in where our funding comes from. It will decidedly remove potential power issues, alleviate financial stress on individuals, and ultimately allow the project to become truly collaborative.
Our initial fundraising campaign will last until until May 15th. The Temporary Ensemble will gather on June 15th, 2019. This year we are hosting an initial performance where individual artists show their work on June 15th. On June 23rd, the Move Move Collaborative will share how the sum is fundamentally different than the parts. We will also be taking our show on the road! We have been offered an opportunity to do a site specific work in Washington D.C. at Rhizome D.C. on June 24th. This is going to be an incredible year!
Go Fund Me support will provide Move Move Collaborative with a solid foundation from which to grow. This funding will help us rent space, pay for food, cover the costs of the performance, as well as provide stipends to the teaching artists and performers.
